Slim Down Calves With Exercise
The best exercises for slimming down calves are cardiovascular in nature. But the problem you’re going to run into is that not all cardiovascular exercises will work. Some will actually make the problem worse.
When slimming calves what you do NOT want to do is any kind of exercise that provides resistance to your legs. This means if you’re running on a treadmill you do not want to run at an incline. Resistance builds muscle and that’s the last thing you want to do. When you exercise you want to do it longer with little resistance.
When you’re trying to do slim calf exercises you want to avoid any activities that require you to use a lot of strength or speed. Avoid workouts like squats or leg presses. These types of workouts will not make your muscles smaller but actually make them bigger.
Cardiovascular exercises not only elongate the calf muscle (which makes it appear smaller, leaner and more toned) but they also burn fatty tissues that may be surrounding your calf muscles. You see, in order to slim down calf muscles you need to burn extra calories so doing light, but longer, cardio is ideal. The reason you need to do this is because everyone stores fat at a different rate and in different areas of our bodies. Your body may store fat in your legs. Some people’s bodies store fat in their belly. It’s really a matter of genetics. So when you start to do cardio you’ll need to be patient because at first you’ll burn water weight and then soon after, excess fat. It may take a week or two before you actually start burning the fat around your calves but it will happen. Your weight loss will actually slow down and when it does you’ll know then that you’re burning fatty tissue.
Avoid any exercises that require high-impact jumping motions. If you’ve ever done the P90X it’s stuff like Plyometrics that you’ll need to avoid. If you haven’t done the P90X and you have no idea what plyometrics are then you should know to avoid things like jumping rope. You may want to avoid playing sports like tennis and basketball that require jumping, starting and stopping, and short bursts of high energy speed.
Also you want to avoid using the stair master machines at your local gym. The step machine is the enemy to those people who want to get smaller and slimmer calves. This means you shouldn’t run uphill or run up and down stairs either.
What you want to do is try Yoga, Pilates, and other low intensity workouts that focus on balance and flexibility. This is how you elongate the calf muscles and make them slimmer.
